Sustainable Building Remains a Priority for the Design and Construction Industry
According to DCN’s recently released World Green Building Trends 2021 the design and construction industry has increased its commitment to building green. While COVID-19 has hit the design and construction industry hard, there’s been an acceleration in adoption of previous trends. The report shows an increase in those that believe the majority of their upcoming projects will be green. Building products and technologies are also growing adoption including automation systems, product categories, and building materials. These trends, and their strength through the pandemic, reinforce the business case for building with sustainability in mind. Green buildings have reduced operating costs and increase building value.
The most important of these approaches is the creation of net-zero/net-positive buildings, ranked in the top three by nearly half (47%) of all global respondents. Other popular sustainability strategies include: controlling the embodied carbon in buildings, increasing resiliency, and prefabrication or modular construction.
